Pen and Poet is a bi-weekly show for lovers, and casual appreciators, of poetry of all styles. From traditional to performance and everything in between. Part interview, part poetry reading. This is a podcast for everyone who loves words.

My hope is that hesitant poetry readers will feel just as at home as the academic. I attempt to blur the line between tough to understand poetry and the easier to digest performance poetry. Because, to me, poetry is poetry. And nobody should feel such beauty is out of their reach.

Meet new artists. Maybe gain an appreciation for the written or spoken word.

About Rene, the host and author

I am a poet, writer, and host of Pen and Poet podcast.

Fiction and poetry should lull you into a false sense of security before catching you off guard with truths you didn’t realize you were missing from life.

My poetry tends to be more Bukowski without the crassness. I keep it simple but try to smack the comfort out of you. My poetry focuses on mental health and family, both things I struggle to come to terms with.

When I’m not writing or working on the podcast, I travel the country in search of small town America gems. I’m a NaNoWriMo cheerleader, a Municipal Liaison, and 7 time participant/winner, mental health advocate, and copy editor for a PR firm in the Albuquerque area.
